It is our own fault for continuing to support this corrupt party!

Seems to not matter how badly these Republicans fuck up, the American people are ready to give them power again come the next election cycle. It is like we have collective amnesia or something and we can’t remember how bad Republicans are at managing. They freely admit they despise the big bad government, so why the fuck do we think they would do a good job at running it?!

The whole election system in America is flawed, this “the winner takes it all” system combined with the electoral college, which can turn out to ignore the majority vote is laid out to foster a “them against us” mentality. And before you let the other side win (“bohooo, they are all communists…”), you’d rather give criminal your vote. Coalitions and compromises like in other countries with a “majority system” are not very likely in this constellation.

I’m pretty sure most Americans here don’t support this party, so the term “we” is loose at best.

      Psst! The problem is FPTP!

If a normal, proportionally elected parliament, there would be room for an alternative that vouches for the same opinion, but due to their slightly lower level of corruption would be seen an alternative for people who votes republican. Thus, through a free market of ideas (something ‘muricans ought to like) the party that was abandoned by theirs electors would clean up their act and come back stronger.

It works in almost every other democracy!!

PS: you’d probably have to switch your presidential election system to use Approval or Condorcet voting systems.

And this isn’t even the guiltiest he’s looked.

Him in Borat 2 was creepy as fuck, and you know that’s not the first time he’s done that.

It’s common for people making an appeal to nationalism instead of an actual argument.

Yeah, every politician really doubled down on flag pins after 9/11. It never really went away. Almost all of them do it or are afraid of being called unamerican if they don’t do it.

Obama went without one a single time in the 2008 campaign and got lambasted for it. It was never a thing before 9/11, but now it’s just another bit the flag waving crayon eaters of the Republican party can use to pretend they’re the only patriots.

Like the other guy pointed out this is a fairly standard shot. Whatever you’re wearing that day, blank background, shot in a couple seconds. The height markers and holding a placard with your name are things that were phased out a long time ago.

The fact that he was ever called that just shows we were far gone as a country way, way before all this.

It’s my understanding that he wasn’t even a good or respected mayor before 9/11. He was largely disliked. But the rest of the country just started garbling his balls because be was mayor when the planes hit.

When it happened, his first thought was probably, “What luck!”

Before then, he was seen nationwide as centrist Republican who would go along with Democrats on a lot of issues.

So, how’s that going for us?

I wonder how this one respected politician could end up as a pathetic figure spreading lies about a “stolen presidency” next to a porn shop in order to support a notorious liar and former reality TV host?

The “respect” was nothing more than him being an opportunist in regards to a national tragedy. He was always this person - it just took a while for people to see it.

I thought he was a good mayor, making New York better/safer than it was before. But I don’t know too many details about his time as mayor

There’s a Last Week Tonight on it. He basically wasn’t actually popular and 9/11 saved his image. Rudy was also was in the tough on crime crowd and allowed Stop and Frisk, which of course turned very racist. The episode has a number of other issues he had before 9/11 also.

Edit: as for making it better, I don’t have a ton of details, but crime was already trending down before his tenure, while his tenure as mentioned got pretty bad for people of color. So it might depend on who you ask.
