Right now I just use the body of my image posts and write something like “alt text: meme name and used text”.

    I’m surprised, because other fediverse platforms already support adding Alt Text and Lemmy doesn’t seem to. (At least not in the UI?)

    with embeds, e.g ![](example.com) you can put Alt-Text directly into the [] like: ![alt](example.com) and it should be recognized

        if you’re using the official web interface, it should work fine. Third-party apps are a different story
