Tbh, if I would be a millionaire, my hobbies would shift from playing videogames to getting every single one of them and digitalizing them into multiple drives, some of them EMP shielded

If I was a millionaire I would shift my priorities to flooding Nintendo with frivolous lawsuits. Hit em with a bit of their own tactics.

I’d need a house and enough storage room for this. Where I live a 320 square foot apartment costs about $500 - that’s 25% of a regular monthly income after tax, a regular house is around around $700.000

I heard from somewhere that you can get the whole collection down to below 120GB if you compress all variants of a game into solid archive.

Argh mate, if you don’t want to find freeloaded goodies, please don’t find the no-intro collection on archive.com

This is so sad… I hope a new site just like it pops up in its place. Vimms was so reliable, I’m really gonna miss it.

With how much effort they put into being most despicable company for game preservation, I’m wondering if their employees aren’t constantly adraid of being assaulted in public.

Everyone has known about Vimm’s forever, it was the first result on Google for a very long time. It’s not that “normies” ruined it, Nintendo is just now deciding to take aim for whatever reason

I saw an article earlier today speculating that the iOS emulator might have raised the awareness drawing the eye of Nintendo, Sega, and others.

Edit - Ha! It was this article.

Established in 1997, Vimm’s Lair has been a popular place for folks to download classic video games that originated on a wide array of platforms, including N64, Sega Saturn, PlayStation 1, and Atari 260. Many of these games can’t be bought in stores or found in digital marketplaces, making Vimm’s Lair a useful place for those looking to check out pieces of video game history. However, Apple’s recent decision to allow emulators on the App Store has seen a massive influx of people looking for classic roms, and it seems all this attention has put Vimm’s Lair in lawyers’ spotlights.

Is the speculation of this site, but also aligns well with Nintendo taking aim at emulators
