The New York lawmaker voted against an amendment by Republican Marjorie Taylor Greene last week that sought to block $500m in Congress’ annual defence spending bill for Israel’s Iron Dome programme.

Fellow Democrats Rashida Tlaib and Ilhan Omar [as well as Democrats Al Green of Texas, Summer Lee of Pennsylvania and Republican Thomas Massie of Kentucky - PL] had supported Taylor Greene’s amendment, which eventually lost in a 422-6 vote.

In a post on X on Saturday, Ocasio-Cortez claimed that Greene’s amendment did “nothing to cut off offensive aid to Israel nor end the flow of US munitions being used in Gaza”.

I simply highlighted what AOC said, as OP highlighted himself in their post. Might as well delete the post in that case. Sheesh.

And go take a look at my post/comment history. You’ll soon find out that I staunchly support Gaza and Palestine and am very critical of Israel.

You did also describe the headline as “incindary” and contrasted it was what you said was “the important part”: AOCs apologist statement. This might have been unintended, but it did make it easy to get the impression that you were agreeing with her apologia.

And I’m glad to hear you support Gaza, but unfortunately I have all to frequently encountered people who will claim to oppose the Gaza genocide, and then turn around and defend the people actively supporting and facilitating it, so it can be hard to tell.

          That counts as genocide apologism???

It’s a bit much. This kind of moderation doesn’t even give any chance for discussions. The comment didn’t get down voted in the negative and other users have made other comments to talk about it and made really good points.

I understand you don’t want any genocide apologists in your community, which is good, but c’mon. Let people have some doubts.

We get far too many genocide-defending pissrael posters from other instances to be lenient towards them. Pretty much every site besides a few leftist ones like ours lets them set up shop and run wild.

We refuse to give genocide and genocide apologia a platform here.

Oh shit! A reply from the big man himself! It’s an honour. :)

I completely understand. It’s best to nip any genocide apologist comment or users right in the bud. There’s no room for that shit.

It’s just that in this case, I thought AOC might have voted against this bill because there were other parts of it that she staunchly disagreed with that was a big important issue so she had no choice. But, then later on she went on X and spoke about being in favour of providing ammunition for the Israeli Iron dome so that Israel can defend itself from rocket attacks. She basically claimed that this was to reduce further deaths in this conflict.

I can understand the logic, but frankly, Israel needs to be in a defenseless position so it can stop attacking everyone else in the region, or face real dangerous consequences. It’s a deterrent for them to stop their attacks.

Totally agree. She’s been consistent in her support for Israel over the years, so it’s been annoying seeing ppl defend her most recent vote.
