Dimebag Darrell and Vinnie Paul - They were the backbone of Pantera and I won’t be told otherwise. We’re nearing 20 years since we’ve lost Dimebag and 5 years since we’ve lost Vinnie Paul.
Terry Pratchett. I’m grateful for the books he wrote and the impact he had on my life, but I feel we lost a champion for wit and empathy when he died.
I’m with you on this one. GNU PTerry
❤️
Came here to answer PTerry too. I cherish his books (going to re-read them all again soon). I love the way he gave the fantasy genre an unadulterated joy. His books are the only ones that can make me cry with laughter, even on trains where I try to behave 😀 Also, he’s the only author who made me want to read footnotes 😂
The world got a little darker when he died.
People in my life. Couldn’t care less about celebrities and people I have no relationship with.
If your life is bothered this much by celebrity deaths you may need to reevaluate your mental health.

That’s needlessly harsh imo. There’s celebrities or big names at least that people grew up with, who may have contributed to core childhood memories or served as a role model for them. To see someone like that pass away can be a jarring moment for many, as their deaths can feel like a part of your youth/childhood dying along with it.
And that’s just the examples that come to mind. I’m sure there’s more. There’s no need to question people’s mental health for feeling sentimental. It just contributes to a society where people’s emotions are twisted and repressed.
It’s not so much their death, but that they won’t create more art*. Just a short while ago I was watching the invincible special, it had Lance Reddick in it. I don’t care about him, because I don’t know him, but I know that he played many roles I loved, and now that he’s dead, that will not happen again, and it makes my life just a little bit emptier.
Edit: * actually, not just art. Politicians like Nelson Mandela could, just by talking, improve the world a little bit. Genius scientists who do science. All that stops. And it’s sad.
In a similar vein Chuck schuldiner from death. I really wish I could’ve seen them in concert.

Gordon Lightfoot. Oddly enough, I’m not really that into folk music but some of his songs are pure poetry.
I had the privilege of seeing him at the mariposa folk festival last year. It was a surprise because he wasn’t on the lineup, but he was there accepting an award. I was pretty much in tears at the end of his performance.
The planet is definitely a bit emptier without him, but his music will help to fill the void as long as we continue to listen.
John Prine
Died in the first few months of Covid.
David Bowie. The man was such a pervading creative force, always cooking something or inspiring someone… 😢
Bowie is mine too. I’ve never been more affected by a celebrity death. I still get a lump in my throat when listening to his music, it was truly an art form of its own.
I miss that child rapist like you wouldnt believe 😭😭
My dog.
This is the correct answer.
Steve Irwin.

Lance Reddick is a recent one for me. I never realized how many properties he’s contributed to that I’ve enjoyed. His death was so close to John Wick 4’s release and Horizon: Forbidden West. He was in all this media I was consuming to gone.
